Tourism is the biggest drivers of Darjeeling's economy, so there'll be many tour operators and travel agents. Many of them concentrate on adventure tourism, including treks and treks, and a few even offer rafting, mountain biking, mountain expeditions, and other activities, equipment, and materials.

Giving tours has become one of the common and straightforward activities in Darjeeling. While this will greatly benefit tourists, the downside is that some very poor quality providers also have inherited play.

In my section below, I attempted to review well-known Darjeeling operators who have been providing services for several years and have been successful thus far. My rating is predicated on the standard of the guide, vehicle, equipment, and kit they supply for tours and adventure activities, also because of the references they need to be acquired over the years.

Update November 2016: the recent air balloon is not any longer operated in Darjeeling. Rafting is restricted thanks to the weak rapids of the Teesta River (due to the annoying constructions) and is especially operated by local operators at Teesta Bazaar.

Hiking and adventure provider

NOTE: I strongly recommend that you only contact the operators supported by their strengths, i. H. Activities they concentrate on. Otherwise, you'll not get the proper service. For instance, don't address an adventure provider for local sightseeing tours or the other way around, although they'll offer anything that comes your way. I even have listed the foremost important offers for every operator below. State your exact needs and get in touch with multiple operators to receive quotes and compare before choosing.

Popular activities and adventure tours in Darjeeling include mountain hiking, paragliding, mountain biking, rafting and camping, canoeing (kayaking), etc. Visit Darjeeling Adventures to learn about the various adventure sports, tours, and activities available within the Darjeeling Hills.

Demanding and warm hikes and excursions

Rumba personally leads the hikes and is additionally the guide. Lily's husband runs the tiny Hot Stimulating Cafe restaurant on Jawahar Parvat Street near the HMI. Rumba can often be found within the restaurant unless he's on a hike. He's an excellent man who knows the terrain alright and focuses on the Singalila Trek along Sandakphu and Phalut. It also offers Dzongri and Goechala treks within the Sikkim region. His one biggest strengths is his knowledge of the mountains of this region where he has lived most of his life and his great kindness to travel beyond the role of guide and show you the thanks to paradise.

NOTE: you ought to confirm that Rumba himself accompanies and leads the hike as a guide. I even have heard that sometimes, when he cannot walk alone, he organizes the march together with his resources. In such a case, the experiences are often completely different. So set the conditions accordingly. They also offer local sightseeing tours in and around Darjeeling. However, there are other operators (mentioned above) who are better equipped for such activities.
